Modern, Clear and Helpful Horary Handbook

Horary astrology has had a resurgence in popularity, and it is not hard to see why. In our age of overwhelming choices and too much information to sift through, sometimes we just want an answer to a specific question. This is where horary can shine. In this book, the author gives you the tools that you need to be able to create a horary chart and interpret it. She has a clear, concise, and sensible approach to teaching horary that is refreshing and makes the subject matter accessible to most readers who have a moderate understanding of astrology. I like it that she offers many sample charts along with her interpretations, illustrating the techniques and the principles that she carefully outlines. The book is well thought out, and in Chapter 6, and in Appendix B where she offers a "Horary Cheat Sheet" she directs the student to the relevant chart features that should be examined, namely Significators, Aspects, the Moon, and Extras (SAME) while guiding us through a working process to arrive at an interpretation. It is helpful to have an understanding of dignities and debilities, receptions, and the proper assignment of houses to the question being asked, but if you follow the process laid out here, you will be able to interpret most charts with good accuracy. And isn't that what we want from a handbook?
This book demystifies horary in a way that is most helpful. The author says: "Ultimately, querents don't know
or care about which technique is being applied to their charts or who William Lilly was. They only care about an accurate answer to their question. They want to know if they will get the job, not which terms and face Venus is in." Yes, and the student of horary wants to know which of the myriad of factors shown in the chart are most important, how to logically and systematically read the relationships and how conclusive the evidence is for the answer. I like it that she spells out the relationships in a logical fashion. One example:
"The basic formula for horary analysis at its simplest is this: What's strong (dignified), what's weak (debilitated), how does it relate (reception) and act (aspects) and in what arena (house)?" If you follow the directions laid out, you will be able to use this method to come to a conclusion you can have confidence in.
This book would be of use and interest to the moderately astrologically informed reader. I have read Lilly, Frawley, Barclay and other horary astrologers, as well as various online amateur interpreters of horary, and I have to admit that one of the other features of this work that I like is the sensibility of the writer. We live in an age where far too often we seek advice from professionals or from astrology to confirm our wishes, rather than truly facing facts that are unpleasant. She does not encourage the astrologer to enter into a co-dependent relationship with the inquirer, but to address the chart on its own merits and to be truthful rather than consoling or falsely reassuring. I think this is honest and fair to the querent.
If you have doubts about the legitimacy of astrology, of course you will probably not want this book. If you disagree with modern horary interpretation because you prefer to only use traditional planets as rulers, you won't like this book. If you are open minded, though, and want to learn how to use a more streamlined method to interpret horary charts, this book is a gem - as I said in my title, it's modern, clear, and helpful.

MY BEST BOOK ON HORARY WITHOUT ADOUBT !

There is very little I can add to the recommendation of Susan Little as I TOTALLY AGREE with her review100%.
I kept looking for all kinds of exceptions to the authors writings and I simply could not find any .The author's method is simple, straight forward and easy to comprehend on a subject that has been too confusing for too too long
I have a very large library on Horary, been part of a group study on the subject for a number of years, tried all kinds of very often confusing, convoluted theories on both ancient and so called modern rules and practices and I believe after having gone into the subject deeply for a VERY long time that if you want to SIMPLIFY your life and just get on with the subject of working with Horary and not confuse yourself, THIS book is your way OUT of the 'fog'...
Just buy the book folks. You won't be sorry.
