A Must Read for Mothers of Teenage Girls

This book is a must for mothers of teenage girls. It helps mothers to understand that being a teenage girl in today's world is different to her world. That teen girls face problems we did not. It helps us to understand how to talk with them about difficult topics such as boys, sex, pornography, the Internet, self-harm and a range of other issues. The book also tackles the issue of why teenage girls often do not openly discuss their problems and concerns with their mothers/parents. The author Susie Shellenberger is the founding editor of a magazine for teenage girls, a former teacher and a youth pastor and well placed to write about such issues. As a child/adolescent psychologist and a mother I recognise the value of this book and its contribution to parenting girls in this era.

Everywhere we look we see teenage girls with no self-esteem, too many eating disorders, and poor choices in friends. But are we taking time to look below the surface – time to talk to them long enough to determine the cause?
I know, I know…. She knows she can come to you, right? That’s not the questions though, is it? It’s whether she will come to you.
This book helps us not only to learn what’s really going on but also how to step back take a hard look at ourselves and our relationships with these girls that we love.

This was a tremendously difficult book to read. It was very hard to step back and take a completely honest look at myself and the relationship I have with my daughter. It was also astonishingly difficult to see what’s really going on in their lives.
I can’t say enough – and this point is also made in the book – that the thing that teens need most is just someone to listen to them. Find a teen and give them that non-judgmental ear that they so desperately need!!

Great text for high school or college

I had used this text in a geometry class I took in college as a math major (class was not required, just needed hours to fill). After using this book and finishing the course, I found it to be much better than the geometry book I used in high school.
This book, like many high school texts, breaks geometry down into constructions using only a straight-edge and compass and then introduces definitions and theorems (some proved, some left to prove as exercises). The part that hooked me in was the fill-in-the-blank-step proofs that were partially completed but let the reader finish so that he or she will become familiar with "Statement/Reason" geometric proofs.
Finally, after ten chapters which deal with such topics as quadrilaterals, parallel lines, polygon areas, similar and congruent triangles, and circles, the authors introduce logic by methods of truth tables, Euler circles, and tautologies.
Last but not least, a chapter connecting algebra to 2-Dimensional (Cartesian) geometry offer the bridge between the "abstract" world of algebra and the "concrete" world of geometry.

Every possible pitfall for German learners is covered in this book, and you are given plenty of practice. Living in Germany, I was able to expand my vocabulary and fluency rather well, but I didn't trust myself to write competently, and I felt that I had hit a ceiling with just "learning by doing." I ordered Durrell's grammar book, which is the absolute best grammar book for intermediate to advanced learners, but I felt overwhelmed with all the information without any way to really practice what I had just read. Practicing German Grammar is pounding all that great knowledge into my head. A MUST-BUY for upper-intermediate and advanced learners.

Baraka's words have a dark and brooding musical power. His poems flow like Monk or Miles, surveying the landscape of their gifts. Following him from beat poet to third world Marxist, shows the true beauty of the African American intellectual mind, at work. This collection shows that Baraka's whole writing career was based on the idea of transition. Movement controlled every aspect of his work. His restless spirit, could easily be a measuring stick for black people's existence in this country as a whole. Our path and growth could easily be tracked in each one of his literary personas. No other poet has taken the mantle of cultural spokesmen with more conviction, before or since.

Childhood Favorite

This book was one of my favorites when I was little. I was looking to purchase a copy for myself a while back and found out that it is supposedly a "rare" Little Golden Book which resulted in most places charging a near fortune for a copy. It's a releif to see it on here for a more reasonable price.
It is a wonderful story about a little skunk who, despite his best efforts, cannot find a comfortable place to sleep. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful seller. So happy to finally find this book. My mom read this to my sister and I when we were little. Having lost the original over the years, we all remembered the book as one of our favorites but could not recall the title to get another copy. I have searched for years and finally found it. It is just as precious as I rememberer.

FELIX M. EDOHO is Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Business and Economics, College of Business and Professional Studies, Lincoln University and the Faculty Liaison for the Black Executive Exchange Program. Professor Edoho has been involved in consulting work for a number of projects funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as the United States Agency for International Development. In addition to publishing in academic journals, he is the editor of Globalization and the New World Order: Promises, Problems, and Prospects for Africa in the Twenty-First Century (Praeger, 1997).
