Illustrator Lynn Munsinger, along with a very cute family of bears, brings 20th-century songwriter Irving Berlin's 1938 classic to life in God Bless America, a warm, nostalgic picture book packaged with a CD of the song sung by none other than Barbra Streisand. Berlin's original lyrics are accompanied by various scenes of a bear father and his two cubs on a road trip--from the mountains, to the prairies, to the ocean white with foam. Along the way they witness a parade of firefighters and police officers, stop at the Lincoln Monument, and stand in the crown of the Statue of Liberty. The trip ends back at the ranch: "My home sweet home." Inspired youngsters will find the musical notation to the song at the back of the book. A portion of the publisher's proceeds will be donated to the God Bless America Fund to benefit American youth. (Ages 4 to 8)

In another song-lyrics-turned picture book-text, God Bless America by Irving Berlin, illus. by Lynn Munsinger, comes packaged with a CD, with the tune sung by none other than Barbra Streisand. Munsinger keeps the focus on Manhattan in an opening scene as well as with a parade of police officers and fire fighters, but she also adds cherry blossoms to a scene of the Lincoln Memorial at the capital, and of course the mountains, prairies and oceans (white with foam). Ages 3-7.

Irving Berlin wrote it, Barbra Streisand sings it on a CD that comes with the trade edition, and Munsinger illustrates it for young preschoolers with clear, upbeat, light-filled pictures that show a family of bears visiting New York, honoring brave firefighters and policemen in a parade, and then traveling across their beautiful country--"from the mountains to the prairies to the oceans . . ." Fireworks at the soaring Statue of Liberty are a fitting climax; then it's hugs and kisses and a view of the flag at home sweet home. The words and musical notation are appended, and the endpapers feature snapshot views of sights and monuments across the U.S., from the Liberty Bell to the Golden Gate Bridge. The art is a far cry from Munsinger's usual wild nonsense, but it shows the same intimate, smiling, affectionate view of the small child's place, safe in the arms of Dad, while opening up to a widening world. This book has beautiful, simple illustrations to complement Irving Berlin's God Bless America. It is a perfect book to introduce the song to young children, as the illustrations depict the lyrics in a wonderful, age appropriate way. I use this book in my preschool classroom all the time.

About the Author
Rashi K. Shukla is Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Central Oklahoma. She received her PhD in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University and has served as lead investigator of a multimethod study of the methamphetamine problem for more than a decade. Her research, which focuses on offender decision-making and the evolution of drug problems, has been presented in numerous forums, both nationally and internationally. Excellent read!

In Methamphetamine: A Love Story, Rashi Shukla provides a rare, inside look at the influence of methamphetamine on the lives of those who share their stories with her. The participants in the study allow us, as outsiders, entrance into the powerful, shadowy world of methamphetamine. Their stories are raw and dark, and Dr. Shukla does an excellent job of weaving together similarities and differences in experiences throughout the book. With its ability to seduce users with feelings of invincibility, increased productivity, and enhanced sexual experiences, users became addicts, some became dealers, and still others manufacturers of the powerful drug. Meth provided dealers and manufacturers with power, money, and the excitement of involvement in the illicit trade. This book takes the reader on a journey into lives impacted by methamphetamine as they became involved with the substance and subsequently escaped its grip. After examining their stories and some of the participants’ experiences in the criminal justice system, Dr. Shukla makes policy recommendations treating substance abusers and addicts less as a criminal justice matter and more from a public health/treatment perspective.

incredible book

An incredible book! Of course it would be desirable to have such a quality as the ability to see the third eye. I was fascinated by the incredible story of the third eye. On the one hand the methods given by the author do not seem very complicated. On the other hand, if it were that simple, everyone would have seen the third eye. In general, I will try to practice.

I started reading with both curiosity and skepticism however I have been detoxifying my pineal gland for a month now as well as meditating with crystals and visualization exercises as suggested in this book. To my astonishment, I have personally attested the results described and have become a sole believer. The author breaks it down easily to the point even a child could understand. Well worth the read. There are far better publications available

If by making French Onion Soup you begin your recipe by tearing open a packet of onion soup mix, then this is the book for you. Cook, Pray, Eat Kosher presents itself as "The Essential Kosher Cookbook for the Jewish Soul." This is a marketing gimmick. There are far better publications available.

As an experienced and worldly Kosher cook, I winced reading these recipes and (poor) instructions. Many of the "authentic" Ashkenazic and Sephardic traditional recipes include: the addition of bouillon powders, onion soup mix, bottled salad dressings, browning sauce of choice (whatever that means), boxed matzo ball soup mix with matzo ball mix (for "easy matzo ball soup"). A Shabbat salad includes the addition of cans of green and yellow beans.

For a culinary historian, most of these recipes appear to be retro 1960's, when women used canned and powdered soups and bottles of salad dressings to baste their entrees. The book is pretty to look at and printed on heavy glossy stock. Ms. Ozair dedicates her book to her grandmother and grandfather, with loving memories of sharing the kitchen with her Oma. The recipes, loved and memorialized by the author, make for a lovely vanity publication.

If you are a serious Kosher cook, embrace the challenge, work, patient skill and art of creating a memorable, healthy and delicious meal for family and friends, if you have a significant international Kosher library, then this collection of recipes will add little to nothing to your repertoire. If you dislike cooking and view it as a chore, I have no doubt these recipes will bring you some peace and a decent meal.

First, let me say that I am not Jewish, nor do I keep Kosher- but I LOVE these recipies! Brisket, bread, hummus, baklava- YES!!! So if you want great home meals- this is a great find! But that's not all- this is a cook book with an added bonus! The author does a beautiful job of sharing the relationship that she and other kosher eaters have with food. It is an eye opening, heartwarming book and I highly recommend it- even if just for great recipies!

A graphic novel with laugh out loud charm

Cartoonish James Kochalka's are a delight. They juxtapose the naive kitty Peanut Butter and the obnoxious, untrustworthy crow Jeremy.

Even though she's just a normal sleepy housecat, Peanut Butter has delusions of being an office worker filing papers on the Flumdummer account. She's prone to wearing hats and ties.

Jeremy is the hateful crow that lives in a nest outside Peanut Butter's window. Jeremy will do anything to steal a hat. In their first meeting, he tricks Peanut Butter into buying his nest with a "million dollar view" for a million dollars. When she protests that she doesn't have any dollars, he throws a fit.

Some scenes can be mildly disturbing -- like the incident where Jeremy offers to help Peanut Butter remove her hat that's stuck over her eyes by shooting her with a handgun. Luckily, she escapes unharmed.

I particularly like one-page introductions that Kochalka has drawn to introduce each story. For the longest story, Peanut Butter warns that maybe you should pee before you start it. Jeremy adds, "If you're a baby!"

Peanut Butter and Jeremy, a classic story of an overtly sweet cat befriending a bitter crow. I love this book, it is charming and silly. James Kochalka does some of his best work through cats.

This is book was not written for children. I was appalled by another parent's warning, "Don't be fooled by the cute cat on the cover and get this book for your child." People who buy books for their kids based on the cover are just as bad as people who take six year olds to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (just because they think it's a kid's book). As a parent, I think it's shameful the way some people go on auto pilot then get offended by what their children are exposed to. Your JOB is to know what your kids are reading, watching, doing. That's your JOB.

Anyway, sorry to everyone else. This book is great. It's light and refreshing and makes me happy to be alive.

A crow with an attitude and a cat with a big heart

Here's a graphic novel that is a lot of fun and is appropriate for younger kids! Peanutbutter is a cat with a job--she often "works" at filing papers, sorting accounts and general office management for her "boss." Jeremy is a crow who lives outside Peanutbutter's house...er..."office"--he's mean and crude, but Peanutbutter calls him her best friend. Both are typical representations of the creatures they portray, but they also have their own personalities. The book is divided into several short stories, with Peanutbutter and Jeremy introducing each one. The black and white drawings are simple and expressive, and the text is easy to read and page design is easy to follow. Recommended especially for cat lovers!

Quick Guide indeed!

Very helpful in organizing all my tasks especially with my current work as I am constantly asked to do new tasks when I am not even done with the rest. I liked how organized everything is now thanks to this quick guide! The discussion about GTD (Getting Things Done) and sorting out tasks before you've even began to weed out the unnecessary to the ones that can be done in 2 minutes or otherwise delegate was extremely helpful. I also did not realize the clutter it causes when I put everything into a calendar. Now my calendar looks neat and I don’t stress about deadlines. Never new OneNote could be so helpful in delegating tasks and I can add just about anything to my documents and files which is saves me the hassle of finding the needed files later.

Ultimate Is an understatement!!

Holy One Note!! So like some people before becoming a business owner, I never utilized half of the things on my PC, esp. OneNote. Thank goodness for Jack Ecko and this User Guide because I was drowning in invoices and sticky notes not to mention all my crazy list. Now Im 100% organized and I have this book to thank!! My favorite part was it was user friendly, never did I have to go back and read something a million times to understand it. I would recommend.

Okay so I have had one note in my comp for as long as I can remember and never once have I touched it! Well sometimes I accidentally opened programs in there and it seem so complicated that was as far as I went. So I read about what it could do and its functions and decided I was going to try using it. First stop was getting the guidance, this book was informative and very helpful! I am now using it every day and I feel like my comp is so much more organized and all my stuff is in one safe place!

About the Author
A. Ravve received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Utah in 1950, and was Post Doctoral Fellow at both the University of Michigan (1950-1951) and Iowa State University (1951-1952). He worked for 28 years with Continental Group, Incorporated, mainly as a Research Manager, and subsequently as Senior Consultant in syntheses and utilization of polymeric materials. He also taught evening courses in polymer chemistry at several institutions of higher learning in the Chicago area, from 1960-1991. Currently he does consulting in polymer chemistry.

Buy this book only if you are forced to!

I bought this book because it was the prescribed text for a class I took. It doesn't tell you anything in detail other than what you already know and keeps reffering to journal papers for every little thing. The organization of material is haphazard, and its very dificult to read through the list of names that keep appearing. Anyone who wants to understand Polymer chemistry, please look for some other book.This looks like the work of someone who has obtained a long list of papers on polymers and has written whatever he could gather from a glance at them, and did not even bother to proofread it once.
