Third Edition is Good But Not Great

New technologies like Google Analytics change so fast. I purchased the third edition of this book from among a group of three or four books on this subject because it was the newest release. A second consideration, for me, was that I wanted a book specific to Google Analytics rather than a book focused on the larger subject of Web analytics. I wanted a book that would point me at the important features of this tool without reading an extra 300 pages of analytics theory.

This book delivers as a quick start guide and reference to Google Analytics, but it also has some minor flawed. The coverage of advanced applications of Google Analytics is good. It presents clear examples of how to use all the features of Analytics, and puts all those features in a larger context. The book is both a blueprint for setting up your site analytics, and a reference you can revisit later. That larger context of how to set up your first analytics program is what makes this book worth buying. There are plenty of topics on the Web about using Google Analytics, but you don't get a good guide to the big picture of how to set up your analytics program from a bunch of disparate topics scattered around the Internet.

This new edition has some flaws. Especially in the first third of the book, some topics aren't very well written. For example, in the introductory section of the book, where they compare Google Analytics to log file analyzers, some of what is said seems to be wrong, and the information on setting up your tracking code is a bit outdated. Minor problems but worse than what I would expect in a published book.

Bottom line, it serves the purpose of an introduction and guide to Google Analytics. I'm using it.

A good book that explains Google Analytics in a really good way.

Two things i have against the book:
1- Doesn't really say much about web metrics.
2- Google Analytics is a product that move very fast and I don't think there is a book that can handle that.

My advice: read the book but keep your self busy with the tool it self for better understanding.

I purchased this book because I manage the analytics account for my company and really wanted some helpful assistance for using the more complex functions of analytics - like event tracking and custom reports. Unfortunately, this book assumes a higher level of knowledge of javascript and web-lingo than I currently have, and just doesn't break things down as much as I was hoping.

I can't believe I only gave it 3 stars!

First I have to say that I adored Yellow. I love the author/illustrator and bought both Omnibus editions with eager glee. Yes the 'Green means go Red means danger yellow means proceed with caution' sometimes was annoying, but I loved Goh and Taki I loved them and how Taki always had a gun hidden somewhere or a knife to keep Goh off of him. The snatching jobs were also detailed and always interesting to try and puzzle out myself. I was curious at first as to why this series was titled a yaoi when it was clearly just shonnen-ai territory until the fourth volume, but I loved it anyway.

Yellow 2 is ridiculously small. I mean it's a fifth of the size of a regular manga or yaoi. A fifth! Also it is priced at 6.95 and that is just too much to pay, even to a Yellow fan. I felt like they should have priced them at under 3 dollars or bunch the stories together and sell them all as one volume. I say that though I love the characters so much I'll probably end up buying the second one just to see if it's any better.

The book started with Goh and Taki being 24, two years have passed and they are both still working in that bar. Apparently the detective they used to work with is having a lot of problems with this one drug snatching job, and threatens them out of retirement. You can tell they love it though, their eyes are sparkling and I can imagine that after snatching drugs, one gets a little high off of the adrenaline rush. The story was solved too quickly. There was no building up, no flirting (not much) and not much investigating. I think that's what made me rate this a 3 star more than the price. It was like a smaller recycled version of the original Yellow, when I wanted so much more.

Hey the second volume in Yellow 2 could end up being phenomenal and this was just a warm up, like I said I will probably buy the second one, but something has to give, either the price or more plot.

Barely yaoi, but not bad.

Yellow 2: Episode 3 was both a surprise and a mild disappointment in that it is an extremely skinny manga. I agree with the other reviewer who suggested that Episodes 1-3 should have been grouped into one volume and sold as one book. Clearly I did not believe or pay close enough attention to detail in the item description, since I was so surprised it was so short. This story is literally one chapter long.

That being said, I loved Yellow 1: volumes 1-4, and it was enjoyable to see the same style of artwork of two of my favourite characters continue in the second "series." For anyone who purchased the original series, it should be noted that Yellow 2: Episode 3 is NOT an oversized volume like Yellow 1: volumes 1-4 were. It does not fit aesthetically on the shelf next to the original manga. Except for being skinny... very skinny... it has the same dimensions as regular-sized manga published by June.

About the yaoi content: The main 2 characters are in a relationship (obviously) which makes this unequivably BL. There is one very short sex scene that is entirely non-graphic. I would still categorize this as yaoi, but just barely, and definitely not as hard yaoi. There is mild violence, which was fun, as it showed off the characters' male fighting spirit and I enjoyed that. There is no NCS and no bondage.

About the storyline: In previous reviews, reviewers had given storyline descriptions that were about previous volumes, not this volume. In Episode 3, the main plot revolves around Goh's two "masters" who raised him after his mom abandoned him, asking him to help the man who his mother abandoned him for to find something that she had hidden from him before running away with yet another random guy. (Whew!) It gets under Goh's skin, and Taki is there to try to help him. The story is short, but I thought Tateno did a good job of illustrating both of the main characters' personalities and feelings.

The reason I gave this episode (doesn't seem fair to call it a book) only 3 stars instead of 4, although I liked it alright and I do love the two main characters, is that the story was simply too short to be very engrossing, which simultaneously made it turn out to be not a very memorable read for me. Was I glad I read it? Yes. Did it seem worth the price? No. Not for a single chapter volume. I didn't feel satisfied after reading it. It felt more like a teaser than an ending to the series. And 2 pages of boy-on-boy action was just not enough for me. If I had only five words to describe this episode, it would be "One-shot: uber-soft yaoi."

Great book to add to your Yellow collection but keep in mind that it is about the size of one chapter in an actual manga. It really is just like a one shot manga but it still has a good story. If only the price was lower that it wouldn't be so bad of a buy.

Perhaps a more accurate title for this upbeat volume would be: "We Got Hired and You Can Too!" Every one of Mackay’s interviews with the now famously successful (Michael Bloomberg, Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King, Jessie Ventura, Bernie Marcus, etc.) ends with the subject richer for the experience of having been fired—both literally and figuratively. Mackay—a syndicated business advice columnist and author of the 1988 bestseller Swim with the Sharks without Being Eaten Alive—seems to anticipate an audience of downsized managers for this book, but his advice is useful to anyone in the throes of work-related rejection, regardless of their corporate ranking. The combination of interviews and short essays could also serve to introduce workforce newbies to the realities of business life: one essay points out that "If You are Under Thirty, the Likelihood that You Will Be Fired in the Next Twenty Years is 90 Percent." IT DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU

If you think this book will apply to you, don't waste your money. It is about millionaires getting fired. If you are not one, you will have nothing in common with the people in this book. One person got 10 million severance pay. Another got 30 million. These people did not let it get them down. Can you relate to them. There is way too much about people in professional sports. If you are in professional sports, thie book might help you. If you are not, don't waste your money.

Shallow and superficial -- don't waste your money!

I can't believe there aren't better books on this subject out there. The chapter on each person is so short and superficial that it really doesn't tell you anything. Some of these people WEREN'T EVEN FIRED, so they don't even belong in the book. Others were fired, but the author doesn't tell you why. The section on Bernadine Healy of the Red Cross is particularly sloppy and confusing. She resigned one month after 9/11 and there is no explanation at all of WHY she did. And another thing that annoyed me -- purely stylistic -- is the fact that all the interviewees keep repeating the author's name again and again ("You know, Harvey..." "You're right, Harvey..."). At least, "Harvey" quotes them as having said that.

Another Celebrity Worship Book

This book is dull, dull, dull. If you like reading about celebrities, you might, might enjoy reading this. Otherwise, you will wonder why this book ever got published. I don't think it comes even close to accomplishing what the author may have intended, namely that if well-known people can get fired and rebound, then so can the reader. In fact, those portrayed in the book have had such presumably astounding success since they were fired that it almost makes you HOPE you get fired, the sooner the better, so you can get on the fast track to wealth and fame.

If you get fired, this book won't help you get hired again. It really doesn't matter what these people in the book did with their lives after they were dissed by someone along the way. If you find yourself getting fired, you still have to do what you have to do to get on with your life. You can't live someone else's. And you definitely don't need a book to tell you that.

Caution! Ingredients errors..

Watch out! Several recipes mention cornstarch in the assembly instructions but it is not in the ingredients list. Your pudding will not set without it. Check out another similar recipe for possible quantity. Some good topping tips however. But more than any other types of books, recipe books need careful editing. Can't complain about the price, just use with caution.

Scrumptious Pie

This book was an excellent example of the wonderful pies my grandmother made.They represent the old south and how the cooks served their pies to family and friends.One of my favorite was the old fashion Chocolate cream pie and the coconut cream pie.
It is well written and easy to understand. I think you will enjoy making some of the best pies in the world. I purchased the book for my Kindle Fire from Amazon.

About the Author
Gary Bertoline is the Associate Vice President for Visualization Computing. He formerly was Department Head and a Professor in the Department of Computer Graphics Technology. He is the co-founder of the Digital Enterprise Center in the School of Technology, and, in the 6 years he served as Department Head, he more than doubled enrollment, funded projects, and donations to the department. Prior to becoming department head he was on the faculty in Computer Graphics Technology for 4 years. Prior to joining the faculty at Purdue, Gary served three years as a faculty member in the College of Engineering and Department of Engineering Graphics at The Ohio State University.

good book.

I got this book for my CAD class(we modeled the problems with solidworks). I actually needed to get the newer version of this (one with the green cover) but i got this and pretty much all the problems were the same. Some were numbered differently and the pages were off a little. For example, the problems on lets say, page 90 of the green one , start in page 87 in this one. I just compared with my friend who had the new one and found the problem on mine.
The book itself is good, they have alot of problems to practice with, though no solutions are given for these. But the chapters explain stuff quite well with alot of pictures and examples showing the definitions. Its a thin book and easy to carry around as well.

Most comprehensive structural engineering book on the market

The Handbook of Structural Engineering is a comprehensive reference source on the fundamentals of, and special topics in, structural engineering. The book is intended for practicing engineers, and the introduction notes that the ideal reader will be an "M.S.-level engineer." Consequently, treatment of subjects is highly technical and emphasizes mathematical explanations to an extent that it might be of limited use to novices.
The first section provides a detailed overview of the fundamentals of structural engineering. Following this introductory section are eight chapters covering special types of structures, and thirteen chapters on special topics in structural engineering. All chapters contain a brief glossary of key concepts discussed within the chapter, an extensive bibliography, suggested readings, and a list of relevant codes and standards where applicable.

Very Comprehensive, and Especially Valuable for Semi-Rigid Jointed Structures

This single volume includes chapters on topics as diverse as timber engineering, tunnel construction, fire engineering, bridges of all types, glass structures, fiber-reinforced polymer composites, and much more.

One exceptionally-helpful chapter in this book, in my opinion, is Chapter 23, on semirigid frame structures. Author Xu explains the concept of semirigid joints, summarizes the state-of-the-art knowledge in the field, and provides worked examples of problems involving semirigid-fixed beams and braced frames. The worked examples are especially helpful in that they each show the solution in a very step-by-step manner.
