About the Author
Ryuho Okawa, founder Happy Science, Kofuku-no-Kagaku in Japanese, has devoted his life to the exploration of the Truth and ways to happiness. He was born in 1956 in Tokushima, Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo. In March 1981, he received his higher calling and awakened to the hidden part of his consciousness, El Cantare. After working a major Tokyo-based trading house and studying international finance at the Graduate Center of the University of New York, he established the Institute in 1986. Since then, he has been designing spiritual workshops for people from all walks of life, from teenagers to business executives. He is known for his wisdom, compassion, and commitment to educating people to think and act in spiritual and religious ways. He has published over 300 books, including The Essence of Buddha, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. He has also produced successful feature length films (including animations) based on his works. The members of the Institute follow the path he teaches, ministering to people who need help by sharing his teachings.

Improve quality of life by developing a steady mind

This book is a good, informative read for people seeking some inner peace and stability in life. Mr. Okawa's practical advice on what kind of mental attitude and personality we should strive to develop, and some suggestions on how to develop this kind of thinking are invaluable. This is not some esoteric Buddhist text but rather simple common sense for a better quality of life. Highly practical and effective, I would recommend it to anyone.

It has good information. Not bulky, easy reading. However, I believe there must be other books that offer a little more understanding on the subject. My suggestion: check your local library and see if you can either find it or find other options before you spend your money.

A good read for any age in life. I hope that more people read this book to stretch their mind in a positive way, to allow them to handle life's difficulties with ease. Although, please be advised that life is what you make it; and with that, hard work is always needed in order to create the life you want. It is a wonderful work that merits a wide circulation. The thesis is challenging to us Christians, but Mr Weinandy has trod very carefully and honestly. I would love to meet the author and find out what started him on this important study. This is a fruitful field. "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us."Jn 1:14

Decent read if you get it for free and don't mind frustration trying to get through it

This book was a hard read. It jumped from place to place, person to person, day to night… was so hard to get through. I at one point after reading and rereading paragraphs screamed out loud at the book in frustration. A lot of things don't make sense but after you get through half of the book and kind of catch on to the lack of rhythm it is a decent enough story. In the credits she thanks some of the best authors I have read for helping her and I find it hard to believe they would read this and not let her know the confusion the book had to it. Her fist book in this series was not as hard to get through but was still confusing at parts. I struggled through both of these even though enjoying the storyline and am really having a hard time convincing myself to read the next one… I may try to read the 5th one next about her brother Kinnion. MAYBE. Seems by reading the summaries they may be written out of order as the next jumps 9 years in the future for their daughter.

But if you get this book for free and don't mind getting a bit frustrated finagling your way through it then I would go ahead and read it. A warning though… I have now read several books from this author and not just this series… she has a tendency to end her books abruptly and leaving you unfulfilled.

In Ms. MacRae's second offering, she tells the story of Ranald, the brother of her first book's hero. The conflict between the hero and heroine leaps off the page from the first chapter and continues throughout. The action and suspense is continuous, making this book tough to put down. The ending is satisfying and the secondary characters, a specialty of Ms. MacRae's, make the story more entertaining and vibrant. Her knowledge of the history of this time period adds authenticity to the tale. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to her next installment.

Problems in the highlands

Ranald the hero is sent by the King Robert of Scotland, at the request of Laird Macrory who is dying, to secure the Macory clan’s castle and marry the laird’s daughter. A marriage that is not well received by all concerned as Ranald is not of the clan.

Riona is the heroine, who has been allowed to learn about the workings of the clan and weapons by an indulgent father. Her brother has gone off to fight the English in France and is believed dead. She now becomes a pawn among the clans of the area who want to take control of the castle. When Ranald arrives he has grown into a man from the boy who used to visit on occasion and torment her life.

A story of intrigue, secrets, fighting, and love. This book keeps you wondering what is going to happen next and how the characters are going to react. They are multidimensional individuals who make mistakes in the action of the moment but then ask for forgiveness. The entwining of Riona and Ranald’s past with their present and the problems they encounter keeps you interested throughout the book.

An Amazing Resourse

This is a great book filled with recipies and information that is hard to get let alone all in one place. My dog with heart disease is doing very well on his new diet and I'm understanding how to use food as medicine and help him through his diet. My regular vet has never discussed any of these things with me and I am guessing she doesn't have this information. The only advice I got from the cardiologist is "restrict salt" and if you read the labels on the dog food and biscuits, that is almost impossible to do with commercial dog food.
Great Book!!

Daniel Mersey has won no medals and his armies will never salute him. His previously published games include Lion Rampant (Osprey 2014), Dux Bellorum (Osprey 2012), and Song of Arthur and Merlin (Ganesha Games 2008).

Peter Dennis was inspired by contemporary magazines such as Look and Learn, and studied illustration at Liverpool Art College. Since then, he has contributed to hundreds of books, including many Osprey titles. A keen wargamer and modelmaker, he is based in Nottinghamshire, UK.

the Kindle version is terribly formatted and you cannot read some of the charts ...

I have not read the contents yet, but i am sure that is is of the same superb quality as Daniel Mersey's other rules. However, the Kindle version is terribly formatted and you cannot read some of the charts due to the, being way too tiny. I recommend Purchasing the print book or a PDF.

Generic set of Rules. And where are the Maori?

I collect miniature wargame rules, especially those focusing on the Victorian colonial period. I was originally drawn to this set of rules because it was produced by Osprey and also because it listed the Maori as an opponent to the British only second after the Zulu. Having searched for rules with which to game the unique New Zealand Colonial Wars, I have yet to find a set that does them justice. Variants of other, established rules sets, like The Sword and the Flame and Muskets & Tomahawks have come close, but none have offered a definitive solution to simulating the conflicts in New Zealand. Therefore I was disappointed that the only mention of the Maori in The Men Who Would Be Kings is in an optional Theatre-Specific Rule allowing them to perform the Haka war dance before the battle which allows them to ignore the first Pinned result of the game and an illustration from Queen Victoria's Enemies (4) Asia, Australasia and the Americas . Otherwise, the author treats them like the rest of the generic Tribal Infantry. They don't even make the list of Starter Field Forces. I am sure these rules will work for the more popular colonial campaigns, including Zulu War, Madist Wars and Northwest Frontier of India, but I find them far too generic for the more obscure and unique conflicts of the 19th Century Colonial Wars.

Awful writing.

This is a contemporary novel placed in the 1890s. The language is modern, the attitudes are strictly 21st century. This lends an unfortunate disbelief to the story. People simply did not talk openly about sex, or try to match an aristocrat's daughter with the family cook, or disrespect one's parents.But the worst offense of this book is the slaughter of the English language. Where was the editor? Grammar and spelling are not this author's fortes.

Very poorly written

This book is supposed to be a period piece, unfortunately, throughout the book the characters' language is very contemporary and completely out of place for the specified time period. In one of her books the author has a character wonder if a ring was an actual diamond ring or if it was cubic zirconia in the late 1800's! Additionally, the conversations between the characters are incredibly stiff and unrealistic. I ended up skipping whole paragraphs to get through this book, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

No Surprises

This book achieves its objective. I had not done simulations for years, and this book walks you through the process of learning Arena. It starts out simple--even without actual computer models, just a manual process. It moves through simple high-level, pre-coded models, and then adds complexity. All told, if you work your way through the book, you will understand Arena, a widely used programming language. Note, however, that the student version of the software in this book can only manipulate 15 entities. That's okay for learning, but for real production simulations to answer real questions, then you would need the professional version. That, of course, costs thousands of dollars. Your company would buy this. So, you see where I'm going: if you don't work in an environment that uses Area professionally, all the stuff you learned that is Arena-specific is, well, like memorizing baseball statistics. A nice hobby, but...

This book is better than nothing.

Overall this is a good book, if a bit overpriced and wordy. Let me put it this way, I guess I really wouldn't want to be without this book. On the other hand, I found it frustrating to use when I needed quick answers, as these authors love getting right into the details. For example, when I wanted to add a conveyor to a process I was modeling, there wasn't a simple introduction at the beginning of the conveyer section to provide a quick, adequate overview. The book doesn't use effective formatting to help one quickly find specific things needed (i.e., Entities Entering Along Conveyor; Entity Proceeds if There is Space; Power and Free Conveyor; Synchronous Movement of Entities; Basic Accumulating; Basic Nonaccumulating; Processing on a Conveyor; Selecting Based on Inspection; Varying Entity Sizes on Accumulating; Failures for Conveyors; Two Merging to One; Choosing Alternate Conveyors; Merging Conveyors; Shrinking Parts on a Conveyor; etc.). Though I recommend this book, you may want to supplement it with another one (i.e., such as a "Dummy" type book) for those times when you need simple, fast answers.

About the Author
Roy has earned majors in speech, drama, and business and minors in U.S History from Weber College and California State University in LA. He is the cofounder of the Santa Maria Civic Theater where he wrote essays included in the programs for nine years. He has been in 36 live stage productions and worked with Tom Hanks and Robert DeNiro as a background actor. He taught law and business in high school and college and served in the Korean War.
